PNMC currently describes Generic BSN/BSM as a 4-year degree program and Post RN BSN/Post RN BSM as a 2-year degree program. Its Post RN criteria include the specified academic and nursing qualifications plus 1 year of RN experience. PNMC Degree Programs. PNMC Admission Criteria.

1. What is Post RN BSN?

Post RN BSN is a degree pathway for nurses who already have diploma-level nursing education and meet the applicable registration and experience requirements. PNMC lists Post RN BSN/Post RN BSM as a 2-year degree program. Its current information lists Matric with Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) or the specified Matric Arts route, a Diploma in Nursing, the required Diploma in Midwifery or applicable post-basic specialty for males in lieu of midwifery, and 1 year of RN experience.

2. What is Generic BSN?

Generic BSN is the undergraduate nursing degree route. PNMC currently lists it as a 4-year degree program and states that applicants should have FSc (Pre-Medical) or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks and Biology. PNMC also lists an age range of 14–35 years and open merit for the stated Generic BSN/BSM criteria. Institutions may publish additional admission conditions, so applicants should check the current institutional admission notice.

3. Which route applies to you?

  • Already a registered nurse with diploma-level nursing education: Post RN BSN may be the relevant degree pathway if you meet current PNMC and institutional requirements.
  • Entering nursing at undergraduate level: Generic BSN is the relevant undergraduate route under the current PNMC program structure.
  • Documents or registration are different from the standard route: confirm eligibility with the institution and PNMC before paying an application or admission fee.

4. Current Post RN BSN requirements to check

  1. Required academic qualification.
  2. Diploma in Nursing.
  3. Diploma in Midwifery or applicable post-basic specialty route for male candidates.
  4. At least 1 year RN experience under the current PNMC criteria.
  5. Valid nursing registration/licensing documentation required by the institution.
  6. Any domicile, gender, entry-test, interview or document requirements in the current institutional notice.
  7. Whether the exact institution and program are currently listed in the PNMC recognized-institutes directory.

PNMC also states that online PNMC-MIS pre-registration is required for inducted students in the professional educational programs listed on its degree-program page.

Fees and Duration: Government vs Private and Province-by-Province

Fees are not fixed nationally. PNMC sets the program structure and recognition framework, but universities and colleges publish their own fee schedules. Government/public-sector colleges can have very different fee arrangements from private institutions, and the same province can contain both lower- and higher-fee providers.

For this reason, this article does not present a made-up “average fee” for an entire province. The table below uses fee schedules that were publicly available from official institutional sources and should be treated as examples, not province-wide rates.

Duration comparison

Region / sectorPost RN BSNGeneric BSNWhat the current evidence shows
Punjab – public sector2 years4 yearsUHS currently advertises both Post RN BSc Nursing (2-year) and Generic BSN (4-year) in public-sector nursing colleges.
Sindh – public / university sector2 years4 yearsDUHS publishes admissions for both Post RN BS Nursing and BS Nursing Generic; PNMC's national program structure is 2 years vs 4 years.
KP2 years4 yearsCurrent PNMC program structure applies; individual institutions should be checked for their current admission schedule.
Balochistan2 years4 yearsCurrent PNMC recognized-institute listings include both Post RN and Generic BSN institutions; confirm the specific college's current intake.
AJK / GB / Federal2 years4 yearsPNMC's recognized-institute directory includes institutions offering these program categories; confirm the institution-specific schedule.
Private sectorNormally 2 yearsNormally 4 yearsExamples reviewed from private institutions follow the PNMC program durations, but fees and semester arrangements differ.

PNMC currently lists Post RN BSN/Post RN BSM as a 2-year degree program and Generic BSN/BSM as a 4-year degree program. UHS separately lists Post RN BSc Nursing as a two-year program and Generic BS Nursing as a four-year program for Punjab's public-sector nursing colleges.

Verified fee examples

Province / sectorInstitution / sourcePost RN BSNGeneric BSNFee period
Sindh – university/public-sector example Dow Institute of Nursing & Midwifery (DUHS) 2024–25 published total shown as PKR 268,054, before optional transport; the current page also states the fee may be revised. 2024–25 published total shown as PKR 275,217. 2024–25 schedule
Punjab – private example Gulab Devi Educational Complex, Al-Aleem Institute of Nursing PKR 296,000 for the listed fee structure PKR 220,000 for the listed fee structure Session 2025–26
Punjab – private university example The University of Faisalabad (TUF) Published 4-semester total: PKR 590,000 Published 8-semester total: PKR 1,400,000 Current published fee page
Federal / Islamabad – private example Rawal Institute of Health Sciences PKR 140,000 for the first semester before university/PNMC/examination charges; PKR 90,000 tuition in each listed semester thereafter. Published 4-year BSN schedule: PKR 1,305,000 before university/PNMC charges. Session 2025–26 schedule
KP – private example Pine Hills Institute Published Post RN schedule: PKR 50,000 admission + PKR 60,000 tuition per semester, plus stated registration and other charges. Check the institution's current BSN fee schedule separately. Current published fee page

The figures above are examples from published institutional fee schedules, not province-wide averages. DUHS's published 2024–25 prospectus gives separate totals for Generic BSN and Post RN BSN; Gulab Devi's 2025–26 schedule gives separate listed totals; TUF publishes four- and eight-semester totals; and Rawal Institute publishes separate Post RN and Generic BSN schedules. Fees can change, and examination, registration, transport, hostel, taxes and other charges may be additional.

Fee warning for 2026 applicants: Some publicly available institutional schedules are for 2024–25 or 2025–26. Do not treat these figures as guaranteed 2026–27 fees. Before paying any fee, open the institution's latest admission notice or fee voucher and confirm the current amount.

Government vs private: what students should compare

  • Tuition fee: compare the full program or annual/semester tuition, not just the admission fee.
  • One-time charges: check admission, registration, security, documentation and medical charges.
  • University and examination charges: some institutions list these separately or say they are charged at actual rates.
  • Transport and hostel: these can substantially change the total cost and are often optional or separate.
  • Annual increases: some universities state that fees may increase during the program.
  • Government/public-sector seats: check the relevant provincial admission authority because fee schedules, eligibility, domicile and selection rules can be different from private colleges.

Important difference between province and sector

The program duration is generally not a province-by-province difference in the PNMC framework: Post RN BSN is 2 years and Generic BSN is 4 years. The larger differences students should investigate are admission route, domicile rules, seat availability, institution, public/private status, fee schedule and additional charges. For example, Punjab's UHS public-sector Post RN admission process has its own selection and service-related criteria, while private institutions publish their own fee and admission arrangements.
