Many Pakistani nurses want to work abroad, but the process is confusing because every country has its own regulator, exams and paperwork. This guide explains the common steps and the main licensing pathways for the UK, the USA and Saudi Arabia, and it says clearly what we could and could not verify.

The big picture: four steps almost every country shares
- Home registration. Hold a valid registration with Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council (PNMC).
- Verification from PNMC. Foreign regulators ask PNMC to verify your registration, and may ask for a Good Standing Certificate.
- Competence and English. Pass the destination's nursing exam or assessment, and an English test where required.
- Registration, employer and visa. Get licensed or classified, then complete the employer and immigration process, which are separate from nursing registration.

Step 1: PNMC verification and Good Standing Certificate
PNMC publishes a page for the verification of registration and Good Standing Certificate. It asks for a photocopy of your PNMC/PNC registration card and copies of all your nursing, midwifery, LHV, post-basic diplomas and degrees, plus the application form.
PNMC also warns that many verification requests from the UK's NMC remain pending because applicants' PNMC requirements are incomplete, and that PNMC will not proceed with those cases until all requirements are met. In practice, start this step early and submit complete copies.

United Kingdom (NMC)
- English: The NMC accepts IELTS or OET, and also accepts some alternatives such as a recent nursing qualification taught and examined in English. Check the NMC's accepted-tests page for the exact scores.
- Test of competence: a computer-based test (CBT) and a practical OSCE. You can sit them in either order, but you must complete both within two years of each other.
- Verification: the NMC checks your registration with your home regulator, so your PNMC verification must be complete.
- Visa and job: set by the Home Office and employers, not by the NMC. This is a separate process.

United States (NCLEX-RN)
- NCSBN's uniform licensure requirements for internationally educated nurses include passing the NCLEX-RN and meeting public-protection requirements such as criminal background checks.
- Licensing is handled by each state board of nursing, so documents and credential-review steps differ by state.
- The exam is demanding. In NCSBN's 2024 statistics, internationally educated RN candidates had a pass rate of 46.74%, compared with 85.27% for US-educated candidates.

Saudi Arabia (SCFHS)
- The SCFHS is the body for professional classification and registration of health practitioners, and its services run through the Mumaris Plus portal.
- For classification, it asks for qualification certificates in Arabic or English and a valid registration or licence from the country where you practise.
- Certificates issued outside Saudi Arabia are verified through DataFlow.
- Third-party guides say non-Saudi applicants usually need at least one year of experience and pass a Saudi licensing exam. Classification levels have changed over time, so confirm the current level for your qualification on the SCFHS site.

- Valid PNMC registration card (check expiry)
- All diplomas, degrees and transcripts
- Passport and identity documents
- Employment and experience letters

- Clear scans of everything, since different regulators ask for different formats

Avoid common mistakes and scams
- Do not pay anyone who guarantees registration, a job or a visa. Regulators and exam bodies set their own requirements.
- Pay exam fees only through the official exam provider's website.
- Use only licensed overseas employment promoters. Check with the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment before paying an agent.
- Keep copies of every receipt and every submitted document.

Do I need PNMC registration to work abroad?
Foreign regulators generally ask for proof of valid home registration, which is verified through PNMC. Confirm the requirement with your destination regulator.
Which country is easiest?
We cannot rank them reliably. Each has different exams, costs and visa rules, and these change. Compare the official requirements before choosing.
Is a visa included in nursing registration?
No. Registration and immigration are separate processes.
Can I apply with a diploma only?
Some regulators classify diploma and degree nurses differently. Check the destination regulator's current rules for your qualification.
